Concept: Age-appropriate, homemade toys

Standard 4.4 Demonstrate a safe and healthy learning environment for children

Competency 4.4.1 Manage safe learning environment that complies with state regulations

Description of activity: The water bottle toys are homemade, inexpensive to make, and are age-appropriate for both older infants and toddlers. Rinse bottles out and air-dry overnight. A variety of bottles can be made, limited only by one’s imagination. Be sure to hot-glue lids on; then cover with a brightly colored cloth tape for safety.

Examples:
• Glittery pipe cleaner, feather, holiday jingle bell, foil-paper, confetti strips
• Rice and buttons
• Birdseed and pom-poms
• Water, dish soap, and food coloring
• ½ bottle of water, ½ bottle baby oil, food coloring, sequins
• Corn syrup and marbles

Materials needed:
Water bottles, cloth tape, hot glue gun, materials listed above
